The Eastside Brotherhood is a community center and an organization based in the historic Out East neighborhood in Jacksonville. This organization is home to celebration and mentoring. I visited one weekend to meet with the president, Bruce and Chris Jansen and Rudi Jamison how head the Urban Studies Center at UNF. We were meeting to discuss a collaboration with my high school photography students. When I arrived, I was delighted by the sense of community—children dressed in party clothes for a birthday party, friends catching up, all ages enjoying a beautiful Saturday in their neighborhood. We were hoping to document the organization, but our project has been delayed because of the pandemic.
