Women of Vision

This special program was started by Sister Elizabeth Fiorte who lost her vision in her 50’s when she was the principal of a Catholic High School. She moved to Jacksonville to work at the Vision Education and Rehabilitation Center. One of the biggest losses for her was the loss of artistic expression. She approached Hope McMath at the Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens about starting an art program for visually impaired women. Her vision was for women to discover the joy of painting, printmaking, music, dance and writing.

My joy was seeing the beautiful connections the women experienced—with themselves, with each other and with the art instructors.
